At Timbercraft we don’t cut corners on quality and finishes in an effort to get you the best build we can. However, we constantly strive to keep our overhead lower and search for the best suppliers to get you the best value possible. Why is the price per foot on a tiny home as high or higher than an average foundation built home? One way to explain it is that whether the home is 2,000 sq ft or 200 sq ft it will still have a lot of the same base components. Every home will have a kitchen with appliances and countertops, baths with tile, vanity, etc., heating/cooling system, water heater, and such. When you build a larger home the average price per foot comes down considerably. These homes are also built to travel with and can withstand high winds so they are built stronger in general than a traditional home.
Another option we offer for those who are more intuitive is the unfinished or “shell” option. The shell option is when we build the house and finish it completely on the exterior and then allow the client to finish the interior themselves at their own pace. This saves a lot of money for those who have the skills to do it. However, if the client does not have the time or skills to do it themselves it generally costs more to have it finished on site later by other contractors. We generally do not sell them unfinished on the exterior. It will come painted and have all the roofing, siding, windows, and doors installed.
